CREATE A FANTASTIC PROFESSIONAL PROFILE THAT SPEAKS TO YOUR MARKET

When your profile is complete it should shout out to your niche, attract people in your market and give a clear and concise message in terms of what you have to offer, what your accomplishments are and where you want to go. Remember it is very important to tailor your profile to deliver the best professional version of you on LinkedIn

USE KEY WORDS TO GET FOUND

When creating your profile is it vital that you use words that are appropriate to your sector or niche and that are commonly used in a work environment. Think about what search terms a recruiter might use if they are looking for someone with your skills set and put these into your profile

CONNECT WITH PEOPLE WHO MATTER AND BE STRATEGIC

Because LinkedIn is a professional networking site it is vital that you network with people relevant to the sector you are in or to which you want to move. There is no point in just connecting with everyone! Once you go over 500 connections LinkedIn doesn’t show how many connections you have on your profile.  This is to encourage the principle of quality and not quantity. Make sure your connections are relevant and appropriate to your sector and profile

JOIN GROUPS AND PARTICIPATE

Through joining groups you will gain a huge amount of insight as these are generally great places to share professional experiences, knowledge and indeed even jobs. Always remember that linked in is a professional networking site so keep it professional and ensure that you are promoting your best possible professional brand when participating in any of the group discussions

ENDORSE AND RECOMMEND

On LinkedIn, you will be asked to endorse people and to recommend them. Ensure to do so as it will encourage them to do the same for you. Through endorsing people, it also allows others to find them in a key word search. It is important to be generous with your recommendations and endorsements as it will promote good relationships for you on the site and will give you a greater chance of being recommended and endorsed also
